Networking enables candidates to take advantage of personal and business connections rather than to rely solely on their resume and the standard recruitment process. These connections are beneficial to both jobseekers and employers, with the latter often hiring new employees only through networking. Hiring managers may prefer to take on candidates with contacts within their shared network because they are able to gain an insight into their qualities through their own personal or virtual connections. Developing a professional network may for this reason vastly improve your chances of landing a job.

Networking to find a job also gives access to opportunities which may otherwise not be found during an online job search. Many businesses simply do not post their openings on company websites. Instead, they often rely on internal networking to inform potential candidates of open positions. This means that having a solid professional network can help you access a “hidden job market” which is not available to the general public. By some estimates, in certain sectors of the economy up to 30% of all vacancies in Germany are filled this way.

Gain insights on how to develop and build strong connections in the early stages of your career. Michael Ferenc, BSBI’s Careers Service Manager, will moderate the discussion with our special guests from Europe Language Jobs, Erika Ianovale, Brand Partnerships Manager, and  Anniek Hannen, Community Manager.
