The BSBI Professional Series 2023: A Year in Review
The BSBI Professional Series was initiated on 9th May 2022, with the aim of preparing students for professional lives and equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in their industry of choice.
This year, the Professional Series focused on offering a wide range of professional courses across IT and business intelligence domains, with a specific emphasis on professional development.
One key highlight of this year’s Professional Series is the significant increase in student interest, with a remarkable 125% increase in students’ interest in sessions compared to the previous year.
Building on the topics covered last year, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint master classes, the Professional Series expanded its offerings in 2023.
The new courses introduced include IT Tools for Project Management Professionals, MS SharePoint, MS Publisher, UX/UI Design Tools and MS Visio. The series has been highly beneficial for participants, helping them stay up to date with industry trends, acquire new skills and boost their professional confidence.
Dr Lawrence Ibeh, Lecturer and the Coordinator of the Professional Series at BSBI, emphasised that: “IT tools in project management are simply enablers. Do not start with the tools. Start with the idea and the logic of your project. The starting point of any project management endeavour is the project initiation. This is the first phase of the project management life cycle. This is where companies decide if the project is needed and how beneficial it will be for them. The two metrics that are used to judge a proposed project and determine the expectations from it are the business case and feasibility study.
There are many IT tools for managing projects. There are no best IT tools for managing projects. It depends on a number of things, such as the intention and the objective of the project, the user experience and the UI of the tool, the cost and a host of other factors.
At the BSBI Professional Series, we teach you tools and skills and arm you for the professional world. We simply make you ready to succeed in the corporate and professional space.”
Our primary goal is to equip participants with the necessary tools and skills to succeed in the corporate and professional world. We strive to prepare individuals to thrive in their careers by providing them with valuable resources and knowledge.
The positive feedback from students further reinforces the impact of the Professional Series. Rutba Naziri, a Global MBA student, shared her gratitude for the Masterclass course: “I wanted to express my gratitude for the Masterclass course I attended over the past few months. The content was insightful, instructors were engaging, and the overall experience greatly contributed to my professional development.”
Tsgab Gebre, an MSc in International Health Management student, said: “The topic was relevant for everyone. It was delivered in an attractive way and simple to understand. The lecturer was motivated to make a difference. It should be as frequent as possible and cover new topics that have practical relevance.”
As the BSBI Professional Series reflects on a successful year, BSBI remains committed to our mission of preparing students and faculty for the demands of the professional world. The achievements and positive feedback from participants serve as motivation to continue innovating, collaborating and contributing to the holistic development of individuals in the years to come.
